homework week 1 - mayan mini project

For this weeks homework I would like you to create a mini project on who the Mayans were. This must consist of research written in your own words. It could be a poster or a presentation but it must contain key information about who they were. Both this project and the 100 word challenge must be completed for Wednesday morning.

The Mayans lived in three different sub-areas:
• The Northern Maya lowlands on the Yucatan Peninsula
• The southern lowlands in the district of Northern Guatemala across from Mexico, Belize and Western Honduras.
• The Southern Maya highlands, in Southern Guatemala.
They spoke their own language and they lived from 2000BC to 900AD. From the late 8th through the end of the 9th century, something unknown happened to the Maya civilization. One by one, the cities in the southern lowlands were abandoned, and by 900AD, The Maya civilization had collapsed. The reason for this is still a mystery!

The mayans were religious people who worshipped gods including sun , moon and rain gods.
they built pyramid shaped temple's and decorated them with inscriptions
they lived from 2000 BC to 900AD
they lived in Mexico in three zones, southern pacific lowlands , the highlands and the northern lowlands.
The maya went into decline in 8th and 9th century and then disappeared and no one knows why .
