Today, within class, there has been a large focus around the Unicef Day for Change 2016.
I would like you to write a diary entry about a day in the life of a child refugee. Try to focus on the surroundings and your feelings (missing home, family, friends etc.). There are no challenge words for this but remember that you have fled a war torn country and are one of the lucky ones in some respects. I would also like you to complete work on Mathletics. Well done to you all for completing your geometry posters last week. We will be able to create a wonderful display. Don't forget to bring a shoe box in, for Monday, for a lesson during the week. The prompt is just one word, which has to be in the story and it is:
SUDDENLY The key to this prompt is the tension you build around the word. Firstly think about the setting, the characters, whether it is happy / sad. Then you need to plan what happens for you to write ‘suddenly’. I’m really looking forward to reading some spine chilling or funny pieces. This will help us get in the right frame of mind for our story writing this week. Today you have been given an image. There is so much you could write for this.
Things to think about:
There are no challenge words for this, so it is your own creative piece of writing. I'm looking for the best, imaginative piece of writing (punctuated correctly) for a large amount of table points this week. As a class, we read the 'Great Kapok Tree' by Lynne Cherry. Alicia represented the Kapok tree. Everyone in the class had to choose an animal and explain why the Kapok tree was important to them. We discussed what would happen to the animals if the man had chopped down the tree. This discussion then brought on other global issues such as pollution, global warming, littering, water etc.
For those of you not attending the food festival this weekend, I would like you to write a recount in no more than 100 words, about your weekend.
There are no challenge words but you need to concentrate on our class targets. Have a great weekend! As we know, the Bishop Auckland Food Festival is arriving this weekend. For those of you attending, I would like you to write a recount based on the event. What you saw, what you enjoyed etc. This needs to be written as a recount (therefore it could be a diary entry).
There are no challenge words this weekend but make sure you focus on our targets in class. If you are not attending the festival then I would like you to complete part two instead. |
